Our family was excited to hear about a new restaurant in town and eagerly awaited the construction of Grumble’s Seafood Company at the new Fisherman’s Wharf. The area was heavily damaged after Hurricane Harvey in 2017, and an entirely new fishing and dining destination was built in its place. And a sunny day in Port A was the perfect opportunity to satisfy our appetites after a morning at the beach.

What better way to experience fresh seafood than to dine at a waterfront restaurant next to the marina where the fishing boats return each day? Grumble’s Seafood Company has the view and the variety to please everyone in your group.

What it’s like inside

Once you step inside of Grumble’s Seafood Company, you’ll instantly get a relaxed seaside feel, bustling with activity and the smell of fresh seafood. It’s light and bright inside with high ceilings and a nautical feel from the seating to the lighting. The blue stools and netted light fixtures really give you a true feel of a restaurant made for seafood.

The short order style of Grumble’s fast casual restaurant means you can order at the counter, fill your own drinks, and your food is delivered to your table. Your toughest decision will be narrowing down what to order, because it all sounds great.

The laid-back ambiance inside Grumble’s is very family-friendly and a great environment for feeding kids of all ages. The blue high-top tables give the restaurant a fun vibe, while the tables facing the windows and water sit lower for easy dining.

Large groups will find it easy to gather for a meal here, as there’s lot of large tables inside and plenty of space outside on the patio as well.

What it’s like outside

Grumble’s is located on the waterfront at the marina at Fisherman’s Wharf. Their large covered deck is spacious enough to accommodate large groups or big families who need a little extra room. Just be sure to bring your sunglasses!

With a wide-open view of the fishing boats and marina activity, there’s constantly something entertaining to watch outside from the patio. To the left of the restaurant, you’ll find the area where fishermen will unload and display their catches from their fishing trips for the day. It’s a cool display and a great photo opportunity that all ages will enjoy. You’ll have a great view of the action from the left end of the outdoor patio deck.

What to order

What to order, what to order… can I just get one of everything?

From peel and eat shrimp to a fried fish basket, there’s a variety of seafood options on the menu at Grumble’s Seafood Company. They also offer several sandwiches and delicious sides (grab some hush puppies like we always do).

And don’t worry if someone in your party doesn’t prefer the seafood catch of the day (like my son, who always prefers the burger). On the menu, there’s also a Fisherman’s Wharf Burger, Chicken Sando and Blackened Chicken with Avocado. Something for everyone!

There’s a kids menu available with fish fingers, popcorn shrimp, chicken strips and mac and cheese. My youngest opted for the chicken strips and fruit, and devoured it. Maybe it was the heat of the day that had her especially hungry, or the riding around in the beach cart that stirred her appetite.

Regardless, she enjoyed her meal and asked if next time we could sit outside by the water. With that waterfront view, it sounds good to me!

They also offer a full bar with several beers on tap, popular wines, and some cool specialty cocktails (like the Big Southern and The Dagger).

Casual dining in a super relaxed atmosphere is what’s on the menu at Grumble’s Seafood Company. They encourage families and fishermen to “come as you are” straight from the beach or boat.

Where to find it

You’ll find Grumble’s Seafood Company right on the water at the city marina. Drive straight down Alister Street and turn right onto Cotter Ave. Take your first left onto Tarpon Street and Grumble’s Seafood Company is directly in front of you, with plenty of parking.

What better place to enjoy lunch than by the water, or dinner as you watch the daily catch being brought in off the boats? A meal here will truly show you the backbone of Port Aransas… fresh fish.
