There’s something about the last week of November that makes everyone a little sentimental. The light gets softer, the mornings finally need a sweatshirt, and suddenly you’re craving a house that smells like butter and something in the oven.
Thanksgiving in Port Aransas trades the cold for salty air and a long walk on the beach, and I think it’s one of the best versions of the holiday. There’s no fireworks night and no summer-style crush. It’s a slower, more familiar kind of week: a morning run, a big meal with the people you love, a beach bonfire if the weather cooperates, and a weekend with nowhere to be.
The only catch is the planning. Some restaurants run limited menus or close for a few days, and rentals for the week fill up early. Here’s what I’d tell you if we were headed to Port A for Thanksgiving together.
Thanksgiving is about slowing down and gathering with family and friends. If Port A gives you a beach walk, a full table, and time with your people, that’s a good holiday. I hope yours is. 🦃

Thanksgiving at a Glance
Thanksgiving Day 2026 is Thursday, November 26. The big event that week is the Port Aransas Turkey Trot on Wednesday, November 25, the day before Thanksgiving, with a family-friendly Kick-Off Party at Cinnamon Shore North on Tuesday, November 24. You can expect to find a moderate-size crowd of families and groups, relaxed and casual.
My best advice is to decide early whether you’re cooking, eating out, or doing a bit of both, because that one decision shapes everything else.

Port Aransas Turkey Trot 2026: New Location and Schedule
The Port A Turkey Trot will be held at Cinnamon Shore North this year. The Turkey Trot’s Kick-Off Party and packet pickup are Tuesday, November 24, and the kids love it. Race day is Wednesday, November 25, with a 10K, 5K, 2K, and a Tot Trot, plus a vendor village. Start times are around 8 to 9am.
Even if you’re not a runner, it’s a fun way to start the holiday week. Walk it, cheer from the sidelines, or just grab a coffee and people-watch.
You can find more details about the annual Port Aransas Turkey Trot here and find a spacious Cinnamon Shore rental here.
3 Ways to Do Thanksgiving in Port A
- If you’ve got a big family, rent a house and cook. You control the menu and the timing, and nobody has to leave the table to get a reservation.
- If you’re a small group or you want zero dishes, eat out. Book early though (if the restaurant accepts reservations for Thanksgiving), because limited seating fills up fast.
- My pick is the hybrid, a little bit of both. Cook a few dishes you can’t live without, then order a pre-made meal or pies for pickup. You still get the smell of something roasting, and you skip the 14-hour kitchen marathon. That’s a win in my book.

Where to Eat Thanksgiving Dinner in Port Aransas (book early)
These places served Thanksgiving last year, but hours and menus change, so call before you go.
- Roosevelt’s at the Tarpon Inn does formal seatings with family-style sides, and you’ll want to reserve early.
- Virginia’s on the Bay has a buffet of traditional dishes plus seafood.
- Trout Street Bar & Grill keeps regular hours and offers a Thanksgiving plate.
- The Gaff, Kody’s, Castaway’s, Black Marlin, and MacDaddy’s were also open.
- Dylan’s did pickup meals, and Snake Farm Pie Co. is your pie shortcut.
- Butter Churn in Aransas Pass is worth the drive.
Last year Fins, Cancun, Grumbles, and Bluewater Cowboy were closed. For more dining picks, browse my full restaurant guide: Best Restaurants in Port Aransas (Local Favorites + Dining Guide).
If You’re Cooking in Your Rental
Most rentals are stocked for a beach week, not necessarily a turkey feast, so plan ahead and pack accordingly.
A roasting pan with a rack and a digital meat thermometer are the two things I’d never skip. Disposable aluminum pans make cleanup painless. For the table, a Thanksgiving runner makes a rental dining table feel like home.
Pack some board games or card games for after dinner. If you’re planning a bonfire, grab supplies, but check the beach rules first. And if your family is the matching-shirts type, there are Thanksgiving shirts too. Grab my free Beach Packing Checklist: The Ultimate Port Aransas Beach Packing List (+ printable checklist).

Where to Stay in Port Aransas (From Someone Who Spends a Lot of Time Here)
Is Port Aransas Crowded at Thanksgiving?
I’d say, it’s moderately crowded. You’ll see families and groups, but nothing like summer, and you won’t be fighting for a parking spot at the beach.
The busy parts are restaurants on the holiday itself and the Sunday ferry line. Here’s what you need to know for planning your ferry departure time.
What to Do on Thanksgiving Day
Honestly, I’d keep it simple and low-key. I would take my family out for a beach walk and collect shells, fly a kite, or book a dolphin watch or sunset cruise.

Where to Stay
Thanksgiving week books up earlier than most people expect, especially for big groups. Look for a large kitchen, enough beds for everyone, real parking, and a short drive to Cinnamon Shore if you’re running the Turkey Trot.
