“Where should we stay?” is the single most common question I get — from my Facebook group, my email list, and people I know personally. There are hundreds of rentals in Port Aransas, and if you don’t know the island, your options kind of blur together. How do you possibly choose?
I’ve been coming here for over 22+ years. My husband and I own a home here now, so I’m not booking rentals locally myself much anymore — but I know this island like the back of my hand, and I know what kind of trip each area is best suited for.
So instead of handing you a giant list and wishing you luck, I organized this page the way I’d actually explain it to a friend: by what you’re looking for. Skip straight to your situation below.

Beachfront + Gulf Views
If waking up to the sound of waves is non-negotiable for you, these are the communities to look at. True beachfront in Port Aransas means Gulf-facing. You’ll either be right on the sand or a short walk to beach access.
- The Dunes Condominiums
Beachfront condos with direct Gulf access. These are popular for good reason — you can literally walk out to the water. Units vary in size, so check the listing carefully for bedroom count and layout.

Solid beachfront option with a variety of unit sizes. Great for couples or small families who want Gulf views without the high price tag.

Best for Families + Big Groups
Traveling with kids, in-laws, or a crew that needs multiple rooms and room to spread out? These communities tend to have larger floor plans, pools, and the kind of space that makes a big family trip actually work.
- Banyan Beach
Spacious rental homes built for larger groups. If you’re looking for a full house with multiple bedrooms and room for everyone to have their own space, Banyan Beach is a good place to start your search.

Port Aransas’ planned resort community — think new construction, pools, planned amenities, and that neighborhood-vacation feel. It’s more polished than a lot of the older communities on the island, which some families love. It sits a bit south of the main strip, so you’re a short drive to most restaurants and shops rather than walkable, although CS has been adding more food options lately.

A full resort community with a pool, restaurant and golf course — great if your group wants built-in activities beyond the beach. Also south of town, near Beach Access Road 1.

Has a great neighborhood pool, which the kids will use constantly. Solid pick for families who want a pool as a backup plan when the beach wears everyone out mid-afternoon.

Pet-Friendly Rentals
Good news: Port Aransas is a pretty dog-friendly town. The beach allows dogs (on leash), and a number of rental communities allow them too — but always confirm directly with the property before you book, because pet policies vary by individual listing even within the same community.
Boardwalk / Parkplace
- It’s worth searching here if you want something near the Island Moorings marina area. Some rental listings welcome dogs — just be sure to filter by pet-friendly to see what’s available and know the fees, if any.

Fishing + Marina Access
If fishing is the whole point of the trip, location matters a lot. These communities put you closer to the boat ramps, the charter docks, and the marina — which means less driving at 5am when you’re trying to make your charter on time.
Sand Point
- Good option for fishing-focused trips who want boat-access at the nearby Island Moorings Marina. Check individual listings for proximity to the boat ramp and whether fish cleaning stations are available nearby.

- A city marina-adjacent community worth searching if you want to be near the water action with a fishing pier and boat slip rentals.

Old Town + Walkable Areas
If you want to walk to restaurants, shops, and the beach without getting in the car every time — this is your area. Old Town is the heart of Port Aransas: small streets, local spots, the kind of vibe that makes you feel like a regular after day two.
Old Town Cottages
- Centrally located in the heart of town, close to shops and restaurants like Tortuga’s Saltwater Grill and Salty Dog Saloon. These are the spots I’d recommend to someone who wants to feel like they actually live here for a week, not just visit.

Village Walk
- Another walkable community with easy access to the main strip in Port A, as well as 11th Street. Good for groups who want the convenience of being close to everything without the noise of being right on a busy road.

One thing I always tell people: the earlier you book in Port Aransas, the better your options and your price. Summer weekends — especially Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day — will book up fast. Read my tips on what to watch out for before you book your rental.
Rentals with Pools
If a pool is on your must-have list — for kids, for afternoon breaks from the sun, or just because — here’s a quick shortcut. There are a few communities I mentioned above that also have pool access: Pirates Bay Resort, Spencer’s Landing, Cinnamon Shore, and Palmilla Beach Resort all have community pools worth knowing about.
If your kids are like mine, they balance their beach time with pool time and one swimsuit can’t get dry enough before it’s needed again.
