Fall is right around the corner and in Port Aransas, the excitement of the upcoming Beachtoberfest has everyone buzzing.

While spending summer on the beach in Port A is quite enticing for all of us, the Fall season on the island is truly not to be missed. The temperatures are cooler, the breezes are relaxing and the crowds are fewer.

But what you may not know is that the upcoming events of Beachtoberfest are six weeks of Fall fun.

Beachtoberfest in Port Aransas runs from September 20th to October 28th, 2018. There are live music events, fishing tournaments, super chef competitions and barbecue cook-offs. And did I forget to mention beer tastings? Yeah there will be plenty of that too.

Let’s break it down…

Port Aransas Beachtoberfest 2018 | www.portaransastex.com

There’s a wide range of music, fishing and surfing events happening all over town in September and October, but here’s a few highlights that I’m anxiously awaiting…

Sept, 27th, 2018     Who’s Bad Parking Lot Party

If the title doesn’t give it away, you should just moonwalk on over to Billy Joe’s Craft House at Finn’s Landing on Hwy. 361 to show off your dance moves with Michael Jackson tribute band, “Who’s Bad”. Follow BJCH on Facebook to surely see photos from this epic event. Red leather jacket and sequin gloves optional.

Oct. 3rd – 6th, 2018     Texas Super Chef Throwdown Series

Simply reading the name of this event makes my pulse race and my stomach growl. For the first time, Port Aransas is the first state franchise on the World Food Championships (WFC), the largest competition in “food sport”. This is where local culinary experts compete to achieve national foodie TV fame. This is a big deal.

Top Texas chefs, 33 chefs to be exact, will gather from Wednesday to Saturday to craft dishes with a different theme each night.

  • Land: Beef, pork, lamb or game animal
  • Sea: Fish or shellfish
  • Air: Poultry

The Super Chef Throwdown competition will include restaurants all over town and tickets will go fast at $35. Here’s where you need to be:

Wednesday, Oct. 3rd     LAND

  • Venetian Hot Plate
  • Trout Street Bar & Grill
  • Seafood & Spaghetti Works

Thursday, Oct. 4th     SEA

  • The Phoenix
  • Lisabella’s
  • Black Marlin Bar & Grill

Friday, Oct. 5th     AIR

  • The Brewery
  • La Barataria Restaurant & Wine Bar
  • Roosevelt’s at The Tarpon Inn

The finale, the Grand Tasting, will be on Saturday Oct. 6th at Palmilla Beach Resort with tickets priced at $65, and I’m pretty sure you definitely don’t want to miss it. Yum.

If you’re a classic Ford Mustang fan, this Mustang crew will be arriving on Mustang Island on Friday for a Meet & Greet at Doc’s Seafood & Steaks. Oct. 27th, 2018     Beach Pumpkin Hustle 5K

Running on the beach in cool Fall weather? Yes please.

Hustle on down to the beach early on Saturday, Oct. 27th to take a run on the beach with a few beach-loving friends in costume. That’s right… Halloween costumes are encouraged at this fun 5K run, with awards for the race winners and the best costumes.

After the race, hang around the beach to enjoy the Sand Pumpkin Patch and Trunk-or-Treat, “carving” sand pumpkins on the beach. Of course, as the sun goes down, there will be more trick-or-treating, food, beverages and music.

Can you say, “best 5K ever”?

Registration is open for $30 and there’s also a $10 Kids Fun Run for the little ones. Love it.

Oct. 27th, 2018     Port A Brew ‘N Que

Port A Brew 'N Que | www.portaransastex.comAfter the Beach Pumpkin Hustle 5K, trot on over to the field at 113 Alister Street to dig in to some barbecue and beer. The Port A Brew ‘N Que is Port Aransas’ first annual barbecue competition and beer festival. That’s right, the FIRST of many, no doubt.

Whet your appetite with some local Texas beer-tastings and take in the heavenly smells of fresh barbecue from some area pitmasters. Bring your appetite A-game to this event, from 11am ’til they run out.
