Pumpkins carved from sand. Trick-or-treating steps from the water. Costumes worn with flip-flops. 🎃 Halloween in Port Aransas is one of the most underrated (and fun!) weekends on the island in the fall.
The summer crowds are mostly gone, the beaches are wide open, and the whole town leans into Beachtober, a month of tacos, live music, and fall events. As far as holiday weekends go, Halloween weekend is much easier to navigate on the island than the 4th of July in the heart of summer. Restaurants have more open tables, and you can actually find parking with your golf cart.
The one thing to plan around this year is the calendar. Halloween lands on a Saturday, but the big family event (Trunk or Treat, hosted by Port A’s Parks & Recreation Dept.) is Thursday, and the Sand Pumpkin Patch is the weekend before. I’ll show you how to pick which weekend is best.
Halloween at a Glance
- Main events: Trunk or Treat at Roberts Point Park (Thu, Oct 29) and the Sand Pumpkin Patch (Oct 23–24)
- Crowd level: Light to moderate, and much calmer than summer
- Vibe: Family-friendly, low-key, sandy, a little silly
- Best strategy: Choose your weekend first, then build your trip around it
2026 Halloween + Beachtober Events
All October:
- Taco & Margarita Trail and Sweet Traditions Dessert Trail at 18 participating restaurants (+ a printable checklist with all the stops)
- Beachtober Beats with live music at Sip Yard, running through Halloween

- Thu, Oct 22: Harvest Moon Regatta (sailboat race finishing in Port A)

- Sat, Oct 24: Sand Pumpkin Patch carving on the beach, 8:00 am-12:00pm
- Sat, Oct 24: Flynn’s Beach Run (5K, 10K, 1-mile fun run), 8am start last year
- Sat, Oct 24: Beach Bonfires & Boos at Cinnamon Shore is 5:00-10:00 pm on the beach, wristband required.
- Thu, Oct 29: Trunk or Treat at Roberts Point Park is 6:00-8:00 pm, sponsored by Port Aransas Parks & Recreation. Past years’ events included decorated trunks, carnival games, bounce houses, and a costume contest.
- Sat, Oct 31: Halloween night. Bernie’s Beach House hosts its annual adult Halloween Party and cash-prize costume contest.
TIP: Trunk or Treat draws hundreds of families. Get there early, bring a bag for each kid, and bring insect repellant spray. Roberts Point Park parking fills up early.
Which Weekend Should You Pick?
Oct 23–25: The “Beach weekend” – This is my pick for families with younger kids. You get Sand Pumpkin Patch, Flynn’s Beach Run, live music, and no Halloween-night chaos.
Oct 30–Nov 1: the “Halloween weekend” – This one is for adults and older kids who want costumes, bars, and live music. If you want Trunk or Treat too, arrive Thursday or take Friday off.

Where to Eat
October is a great month for dining in Port Aransas because waits are shorter. Use the Beachtober Food Trails as your game plan: pick two or three taco spots (like Castaways or Bluewater Cowboy), then end the day with a dessert stop (like Trout Street or MacDaddy’s). Full dining lists are in my Best Restaurants in Port Aransas and Kid-Friendly Restaurants guides.

Where to Stay
Fall rates on rental homes and condos are much affordable in the fall than summer rates. Fall is a great season to book a large place with room for the group and a short golf cart ride to Roberts Point Park (one of my family’s favorite spots by the water). Start with Where to Stay in Port Aransas, then check VRBO or Expedia for fall deals.
Happy Halloween from Port A!
Come for the sand pumpkins. Stay for the shrimp tacos, the dolphins, and the quiet beach. It doesn’t have to be scary to be memorable. 🎃
