Every fall, the vibe on the island starts to shift. The summer crowds thin out, the beaches get quieter, and the Winter Texans start rolling in with their golf carts, binoculars and fishing poles. If you’re one of them, welcome back! And if this is your first winter in Port A, I think you’re going to love it.
Here’s the honest answer up front: Port Aransas does not have one big citywide senior discount. But there are plenty of ways to stretch your budget all winter long. You’ll find savings in Winter Texan monthly rental rates, restaurants’ featured specials, free things to do, and the senior discounts you can bring with you from home.
I dug through all of it ahead of Winter Texan season (roughly November through March), so you can plan before you pack. Deals and prices may change, so I’ve pointed out what’s worth double-checking before you count on it.
Before You Pack: Senior Discount Memberships and Apps Worth Having
Let’s start with the savings that travel with you. A lot of restaurant chains have quietly swapped their automatic senior discounts for loyalty programs, so these days a membership card or an app often saves you more than your birthday does.
- AARP: You don’t have to be retired to join. Anyone 18+ can, and it’s $15 for the first year with auto-renewal, then $20 (or $55 for three years, $79 for five). It also includes a free second membership for another adult in your home, so you and your sweetheart can each have a card. Great for rental cars, hotels on the drive down and chain restaurants.
- The Senior List and SeniorLiving.org: Free, searchable lists that tell you the age, the day of the week and whether a membership is required. I’d check a restaurant chain’s offerings here before leaving home.
One little habit that helps: snap a photo of your membership card so it’s always on your phone when the cashier asks.
So while there isn’t a Port Aransas-specific senior discount card or app, what I did find is that the Port A Chamber keeps a Winter Texans page that’s worth bookmarking.

Winter Texan Monthly Rates: Where the Biggest Savings Are
In Port Aransas, the best savings come from how long you stay, not how old you are. Most Winter Texan rates kick in at around 27 to 30 nights, and a lot of companies would rather give you a quote than post a price online.
Here’s who is offering Winter Texan deals this season, and what I’d ask when you call:
- Silver Sands Vacation Rentals: Winter Texan monthly rates plus 10% off stays of 27+ nights, and they’ve posted a 2026-2027 Winter Texan deal. Ask which units the monthly rate covers.
- Sand Key Vacation Rentals: Discounted monthly rates on condos, beach houses and townhomes, offered only in winter (typically November through March). Ask whether utilities are included.
- Sandcastle Condominiums: Winter Texan and long-term promotional rates for stays of 30+ days. Ask about a December to February stay.
- Palmilla Beach Resort: Some listings invite you to contact the property manage for discounted daily rates on stays of 28+ nights. Ask whether your favorite rental home at Palmilla Beach Resort qualifies.
- Golf carts: Several rental companies offer discounted month-long Winter Texan golf cart rentals, though prices are rarely listed online. Popular cart rental companies include Jackfish Cart Rentals, Texas Red Golf Carts, Bron’s Beach Carts, Island Outfitters and Golf Carts, Port A Beach Buggies and Coastal Ed’s Coastal Carts. Ask about a month-long rate and the deposit. Then read Port Aransas Golf Cart Guide: Renting One, Where to Drive It, and Whether It’s Worth It.
- RV resorts: There are quite a few RV resorts in Port Aransas, including Aloha Beach RV Resort, Port A RV Resort, Lafitte’s Hideout, Gulf Waters Beach Front RV Resort, On The Beach RV Resort, and Pioneer Beach Resort for Winter Texans. I didn’t find posted seasonal rates on these, so ask about monthly pricing and whether electric is metered.
Remember, quotes can change by season and by unit, so I’d get the number (and your dates) in writing before you send a deposit. And if you’re still deciding where to stay, my Where to Stay in Port Aransas guide can help you narrow it down.

TIP: If you're planning your beach trip to Port A soon, check current availability on VRBO or Expedia here. Popular dates like Spring Break, Summer weekends, SandFest and holidays book up fast, so don't wait to secure your rental ASAP.
Where to Eat in Port Aransas on a Winter Texan Budget
There are approximately 50 places to eat in Port Aransas, however most restaurants don’t advertise a flat senior discount. What you’ll find instead are winter specials that are open to everyone, and they happen to fit a relaxed, no-rush schedule perfectly. Here are the ones I’ve seen around Port A in the past:
- FINS Grill & Icehouse: All-you-can-eat fried shrimp on Mondays, plus daily specials and happy hour.
- Kody’s: All-you-can-eat fried shrimp on Wednesday evenings
- Tortuga’s Saltwater Grill: Wine Wednesday, with 50% off bottles every Wednesday, plus monthly wine tastings.
- MacDaddy’s Family Kitchen: Daily specials, happy hour and a weekly trivia night.
- BlueWater Cowboy: Posts seasonal specials.
- Port Aransas Restaurant Week: Special menus and deals at participating local restaurants. The 2027 dates haven’t been posted yet, but once they’re shared, I’ll update this post.

Free Things to Do in Port Aransas (Plus Senior Savings Nearby)
Some of the best things about Port A cost exactly nothing, and that stretches a long stay further than any percentage off.
- Port Aransas Museum: Free admission, with donations welcome. The museum also offers free guided Chapel on the Dunes tours on the first and third Saturday of each month at 9:15 a.m. Call 361-749-3800 by 4 p.m. the day before to reserve. (I wrote more about it in 5 Things to Know About Chapel on the Dunes.)
- Farley Boat Works: Watch real boat builders at work. Call ahead to see upcoming workshops or activities.
- Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center: A long boardwalk, walking trail, an observation deck and free spotting scopes. Winter is prime birding season, so bring your binoculars.
- Port Aransas Nature Preserve: Miles of walking and biking trails through wetlands and dunes. Popular nature parks include:
- Patton Center for Marine Science Education: Coastal exhibits and a touch tank, and admission is always free.
- Port Aransas Ferry: Free for cars and pedestrians, 24 hours a day, weather permitting. It’s run by TxDOT, and it’s first come, first served. Learn more about when to leave for the ferry line in Port Aransas Ferry Guide.
- Roberts Point Park: Amazing sunsets over the marina, dolphin spotting, pier fishing and live music some evenings.

Senior Pricing at Parks and Day Trips
- Mustang Island State Park: Adult entry is $7 a day. The Texas Parklands Passport gives Texas residents 65+ 50% off, and entry is free for anyone born before September 1, 1930. If you’re an out-of-state Winter Texan, ask the park what applies to you. And reserve your day-use pass ahead, because the park often reaches capacity.
- USS Lexington Museum in Corpus Christi: Seniors (60+) get reduced admission. The museum’s Throwback Pricing Weekend charged seniors with ID just $5 in February 2026, so watch for the 2027 dates.
- Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi: Senior (65+) and military tickets were $39.95 as of last year. Confirm today’s price at the ticket window.

Monthly Winter Texan rates typically run November through March. - Is the Port Aransas ferry free?
Yes! The TxDOT ferry is free for vehicles and pedestrians and runs 24 hours a day, weather permitting. You can check my ferry wait times guide before you head over. - Is an AARP membership worth it for a Winter Texan?
It can be, especially if you rent cars or stay in hotels on the drive down. AARP says a single benefit may cover the whole cost of membership, which is $15 for the first year with auto-renewal.
