There’s a delicious pizza contender in town and it’s hot. Literally. The popular Dylan’s Coal Oven Pizzeria is a somewhat undiscovered gem with coal oven-baked pizzas, specialty pastas and fresh salads, as well as a full bar. It’s quaint and it’s good. Pizza in Port Aransas just got way cooler.
We popped in for lunch the week before Memorial Day and it was a perfect cool retreat from the already 90-degree day. Located in Cinnamon Shore, the restaurant is positioned on the corner of Market Street and Round Road (the main circle in Cinnamon Shore).
It’s open to the public (not just guests on property) and next door to the new Market, which is a small grocery onsite.

What it’s like inside
Dylan’s is light and bright inside and has about 6 large tables in the main dining area, as well as a countertop bar. There’s also a separate room with more tables that can be used for gatherings.
Outside you’ll find a great roped off area with plenty of picnic tables in the grass to accommodate large groups and families with kids who need a little wiggle room. There are also a few picnic tables along the Market Street walkway as well.
Cinnamon Shore hosts quite a few outdoor concerts on their circular lawn throughout the year, and this area outside of Dylan’s is ideal for taking in the music and the food. It’s also a great dog-friendly area when you want to dine with your four-legged friends.
So don’t forget your sunglasses and wide-brim hat when sitting outside in the Port Aransas sun while you’re enjoying your pizza.

What to order
If you’re a traditionally-crafted thin crust pizza lover, then the New York style pizza pies from Dylan’s are the slice you’ve been looking for in Port Aransas. Dylan’s has the only genuine coal burning oven on Mustang Island and their pies come out piping hot.
They have a variety of specialty pies like Margherita and Arugula with Prosciutto, as well as the option to create your own.
TIP: Grab one of my favorite pizza recipe books, The Pizza Bible, to assemble your own pizza creations at home.
My teenagers ordered the garlic knots, pepperoni and meatball custom pizza and the classic kid-approved pepperoni pizza for my youngest, who loved the look of the “mini-pepperonis”. Everything tasted pretty good too, because the teens couldn’t even wait for the pizza to cool off before they devoured it.
