Fishing Gear Deals
Port Aransas is one of the TOP fishing destinations on the Texas Gulf Coast — whether you’re heading out on a deep sea charter, dropping a line off Horace Caldwell Pier, or surf fishing at sunrise. Prime Day is a great time to gear up.
What to look for:
- Spinning rods and combos — Look for Ugly Stik, Penn, or Shimano. A solid combo for pier fishing typically runs $60–$120; expect Prime Day discounts of 20–35%.
- My top pick: Ugly Stick 7′ Road + Reel Combo
- Tackle boxes and storage — Plano and Bass Pro brand tackle organizers frequently appear in Prime Day deals.
- My top pick: Plano Premium Tackle Storage Organizer Box
- Fishing coolers — YETI, Igloo, and Pelican coolers almost always see Prime Day pricing. A quality 30–65 qt cooler is the single best investment for a Port A fishing trip.
- My top pick: YETI Roadie 32 Wheeled Cooler (I own it in black, but kinda wish I’d gotten the red!)
- Sunscreen for fishermen — High-SPF sport sunscreen (think Coppertone Sport 70 SPF or Banana Boat Sport) is a must-have.
- My top pick: Neutrogena Sport Face Sunscreen SPF 70+ (I always buy sunscreen in quantities of 2, because someone in my family always walks off with mine)
LOCAL TIP: Heading out on a charter? Many Port Aransas fishing charters provide rods, but bringing your own quality gear is a huge plus if you’re surf fishing or pier fishing.
Beach Gear + Shade Essentials
There’s no natural shade on Mustang Island beaches — you’ll need to bring your own. These are the items every Port Aransas visitor needs, and Prime Day is the perfect time to upgrade.
- Beach canopies and sun shelters — Look for UPF 50+ pop-up shelters from brands like Blissun, Sport-Brella, or Sun Ninja. These go fast on Prime Day.
- My top pick: Sun Ninja Beach Sun Shelter 10x10ft
- Beach chairs — Low-profile sand chairs and reclining beach chairs (look for deals on Sportbrella, Tommy Bahama and Rio brands) frequently hit 30–40% off.
- Sand-free beach mats — A game-changer for families. Matador and CGear make great options that appear in Prime Day deals.
- Waterproof dry bags — Essential for the boat, kayak, or Jetty Park. Earth Pak and MARCHWAY are reliable mid-range brands.
- Portable bluetooth speakers — JBL Flip and Bose SoundLink frequently see Prime Day pricing. Great for a beach day soundtrack.
⚠️ Heads up: Amazon deals can sell out fast. If you see something you want, don’t wait — Prime Day inventory moves quickly, especially on outdoor and beach gear.
Packing + Luggage Deals
If you’re heading to Port A this summer, Prime Day is genuinely one of the best times to buy luggage. Brands like Samsonite, American Tourister, and Travelpro regularly hit their lowest prices of the year.
- Spinner luggage — If you’re flying Southwest into CRP, a good 22″ spinner is all you need for a beach trip.
- Lightweight checked bags — Great for families packing beach gear.
- Packing cubes
- Packable daypacks — Perfect for day trips, shell hunting at San José Island, or exploring Port Aransas.
- Waterproof tote bags — Versatile for beach days and evening strolls down Alister Street.

Water Sports + Adventure Gear
Port Aransas has no shortage of water activities — kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling, and dolphin watching. Prime Day is ideal for gearing up with these essentials for sun in the water.
- Inflatable paddleboards (iSUPs) — Brands like Atoll, iROCKER, and SereneLife often see $100–$200 off on Prime Day. A great investment if you visit Port A regularly.
- Snorkel sets — The rock jetties at Jetty Park offer surprisingly good snorkeling; a basic mask/fin set is all you need.
- Kayak paddles and accessories — Even if you rent a kayak locally, having your own paddle is an upgrade.
- Action cameras — GoPro and DJI Osmo frequently appear in Prime Day deals. Perfect for capturing dolphin sightings and fishing trips.
- Waterproof phone cases — Universal waterproof pouches for $15–$25 are a no-brainer.
Sun Care + Personal Essentials
The Port Aransas sun is no joke — UV index regularly hits 10+ in summer. Stock up on sunscreen during Prime Day.
- High-SPF sport sunscreen — Coola Reef-Safe Sunscreen, Banana Boat Sport 70, and EltaMD UV Sport are all solid picks. Buy in bulk during Prime Day to last all summer.
- After-sun aloe vera — Sun Bum and Banana Boat aloe gel almost always appear in Prime Day deals.
- UV-protective clothing and rash guards — Coolibar, Columbia, and Outdoor Research make excellent SPF clothing.
- Polarized sunglasses — Costa Del Mar, Maui Jim, and Oakley frequently see Prime Day discounts. Polarized lenses are essential on the water.
- Wide-brim hats — Tilley and Wallaroo make fantastic UPF hats that appear in outdoor gear deals.
💡 Reef-safe matters: The Texas coast is part of a sensitive Gulf ecosystem. I always recommend reef-safe mineral sunscreens — look for zinc oxide or titanium dioxide as the active ingredient. Shop reef-safe sunscreens here (Coola Sunscreen is one of my favorites!).
Kids + Family Beach Gear
Traveling to Port Aransas with the family? Prime Day is the time to stock up on the gear that makes a beach vacation with kids actually fun.
- Kids’ rash guards and swimwear — UV-protective swimwear is worth every penny on the Texas coast.
- Sand castle kits and beach toys — Melissa & Doug beach sets and Sloosh buckets are highly rated and frequently discounted.
- Kids’ snorkel sets — Junior sizes for the jetties.
- Portable beach tent / baby shade — For families with infants or toddlers, a dedicated baby beach tent (Pacific Play or Neso) is essential.
- Water shoes — Crucial for rocky jetty areas and oyster flats. Speedo and Merrell make great options.
Coolers + Outdoor Entertaining
A great cooler is the difference between a good beach day and a great one. Port Aransas beach days are long — you need ice that lasts.
- YETI Tundra & Roadie — The gold standard. Expect 15–20% off on Prime Day, which is significant on a $300+ cooler.
- Igloo BMX and TRAILMATE — Mid-range wheeled coolers that punch above their weight.
- Pelican Elite coolers — YETI competitors with comparable performance; sometimes deeper Prime Day discounts.
- Soft-sided coolers — YETI Hopper and Hydro Flask soft coolers are great for boat days.
- Portable outdoor tables — Lifetime and Coleman folding tables are a staple for beach setups.
