No trip to Port Aransas is truly complete without a visit to the sweetest spot in town. Winton’s Island Candy has been a staple of Port Aransas’ dessert scene for 22 years, and is a must-do for any beach-goer in town.
Satisfying your sweet craving is superbly easy in a candy store like this that offers hundreds of confections, from homemade fudge and saltwater taffy to gummies and sour candy. There’s something for every taste and every age.
Recently remodeled after Hurricane Harvey (August 2017), Winton’s is a colorful and recognizable building located on Alister Street, across from The Islander souvenir shop and Destination Beach & Surf (aka the shark). Parking is limited in front, but is usually accessible easily.
Once inside, grab a bag (or two) and explore the aisles of candy heaven. The majority of the candy available at Winton’s is priced by the pound and weighed at checkout. Keep your packaged candies in a separate bag for easier cash-out.
Not sure what kind of sweetness you’re in the mood for? Winton’s certainly has a lot of options for you to choose from. Ask the staff for their recommendations (and be sure to tip them to support their college fund). Last time I checked, Winton’s only accepted cash, so come prepared.
I love the nostalgic feel of the old classic car displaying their wide variety of saltwater taffy. The old tin signs and framed photos and clippings that decorate the store are always a source of entertainment while shopping.

Between the homemade fudge and the milk chocolate peanut clusters, you can certainly smell the sweetness in waves as you wander the shop.
Pro tip: Don’t leave your chocolate in the beach cart cupholder. It will melt in a heartbeat. (Not that it’s ever happened to me… ahem.)
